Photofacial

If age spots, skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation concern you, you have a solution to improve all of these problems and more, safely and effectively. An IPL Photofacial is a non-invasive procedure with no downtime or recovery that can provide long-lasting results. An IPL Photofacial, a non-ablative treatment, also takes very little time to perform so that it won’t interfere with your schedule or lifestyle. It works by activating your body’s healing response. As a result, the treatment promotes healthier, clearer skin, naturally. And you can now have an IPL Photofacial at Spa Sydell.

How does a photofacial work?

An Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Photofacial is a fractional, non-ablative technology employing intense pulses of light that can address many common skin concerns including discoloration, scarring caused by acne and even large pores. The device delivers controlled pulses of light energy to the skin, penetrating into the skin’s deeper layers and gently heating them.

The absorbed pulses of energy have a dual effect. First, they stimulate your body’s natural healing response, specifically, the generation of increased collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are what help produce and sustain the underlying structure that gives the skin its volume, good tone and a youthful appearance.

Second, the light energy, when absorbed by the pigmentation in your skin, will compromise cells responsible for blemishes. Afterwards, your body’s lymphatic system will slowly and naturally remove these damaged cells, leaving you with clearer and more even skin.

The device also allows your Spa Sydell medical provider to deliver precise amounts of energy to your concern areas, enhancing your safety and results. The device’s integrated cooling mechanism further adds to your safety as well as, ensuring you have a very comfortable procedure during each of your sessions.

Benefits & Improvements

What happens during a photofacial treatment?

A photofacial will feel like a series of small pricking sensations accompanied by warmth in the treatment area. Most patients do not need to have a pain reliever during their photofacial, but you may request one. A typical treatment session generally lasts between 15 and 30 minutes so you can schedule your treatment during your lunch hour if you wish. Several photofacial sessions are usually required to produce optimum results, especially if you have a larger concern area. You will need to avoid tanning or excessive sun exposure prior to your treatment as well as any blood thinners.

What happens during my recovery from a photofacial treatment?

After your photofacial treatment, you will have a few natural but mild side effects which may include swelling and redness in treated areas. Swelling usually resolves in a few hours, and redness after a couple of days. You will also have a few aftercare requirements. You will need to continue to avoid direct sunlight for a few days, and you will need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin, which will be sensitive. Most patients can return to their usual schedules immediately and will soon be enjoying their clearer and more refreshed skin.

What results can I expect from a photofacial?

A photofacial can significantly improve skin discoloration issues, skin tone problems and skin irregularities such as blemishes and scarring. While some patients see results after their first treatment, most will see improvements in the following weeks. In addition, most patients will require a full course of treatment, which typically includes three to five sessions about two to six weeks apart.

How long will my photofacial results last?

Many patients will enjoy younger and healthier looking skin for six months, and in some cases longer, after their initial course of treatment. However, since aging will continue to break down collagen and elastin, you will need additional treatments to maintain your results. Your Spa Sydell medical provider will recommend the optimal maintenance cycle for you.
