If you’re considering microneedling, you may be wondering how your skin will look and feel afterward. Knowing what’s normal after your appointment can help you plan ahead and care for your complexion during recovery.
With three locations in the Atlanta area, Spa Sydell Integrative Aesthetics has offered spa, aesthetic, and wellness services for more than 40 years. Our trained aestheticians provide traditional microneedling, microneedling with growth factors and PRP, and Vivace® RF microneedling.
What Your Skin May Look Like Right After Microneedling
Microneedling creates tiny, controlled openings that prompt your skin’s natural repair response. Immediately afterward, your complexion may look pink or red, similar to a mild sunburn. It can also feel warm, tight, or mildly tender.
After traditional microneedling, redness often fades considerably within several hours, though a pink tone or sensitivity may remain for 12 to 48 hours. Recovery can differ with PRP, growth factor, or RF microneedling and varies depending on the treatment depth and area addressed.
What to Expect During the First Few Days
During the first few days, you may notice mild swelling, dryness, rough texture, or light flaking, although your experience will depend on the treatment performed and your individual response. These changes are generally part of the renewal process. Some people also notice temporary darkening, a bronzed appearance, or light flaking as they recover.
Try not to pick, rub, or scrub any dry skin. Pulling at flakes can irritate the treated area and interfere with healing. Let them come away naturally while keeping your complexion comfortably moisturized.
Most people can return to work and other normal activities quickly. Still, you may prefer to book your session when you don’t have an important event the following day.
How to Care for Your Skin After Treatment
Your routine should remain simple while your complexion settles. Wash with a mild cleanser and apply a gentle moisturizer. You should also avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, and other potentially irritating products for several days.
Sun protection is also important because freshly treated skin can be more sensitive to UV exposure. Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, wear a hat when outdoors, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight.
We recommend taking a break from makeup for at least 24 to 48 hours. Once you resume wearing it, choose clean, noncomedogenic products and use freshly washed brushes or sponges.
Start Planning Your Microneedling Visit
A little preparation can make microneedling downtime easier to manage. Leave room in your calendar for brief redness, follow your aftercare instructions, and give your complexion time to recover without introducing harsh products too soon.
